The provided data are the results of a study about off-momentum cleaning in the LHC IR3 TCP. Particles with large momentum offsets, driven into the momentum collimation insertion by radiation damping, are on the focus of this work.
The SixTrack code has been used to simulate proton losses at 7 TeV scenario: particles lose energy turn by turn due to the emission of synchrotron radiation and eventually they hit the IR3 TCP.
The results provided here refer to simulations of 120 000 particles, tracked for 1.3 millions of turns. For any other detail about the simulation parameters (even the collimator settings used), please refer to the IPAC13 paper: SixTrack Simulation of Off-Momentum Cleaning in LHC .
For more information, see LHC Collimation Working Group #156 and Collimation Working group #160.
Two other files are included in this folder:
impacts_real_ALL.dat | contains the collimator coordinates (x, x', y, y') where particles performed inelastic interactions. |
collgaps.dat | contains all the informations about the collimators (type, material, setting, etc) |
Hits on the aperture (LPI file) are not included and should be insignificant compared to the hits on collimators.
The standard sequence has been modified: new collimators have been installed in the cells 8 or/and 10 of the Dispersion Suppressor right of IR7,
at the position which would correspond to the space made available by replacing a 8.3T dipole by two shorter 11T dipoles.
The collimators are called TCRYO in SixTrack.
Several cases were considered: the links below refer to simulations of Horizontal Beam 1.
No TCRYO |
One TCRYO in cell 8 |
Two TCRYO in cells 8 and 10 |
In the following zipped file, the outputs from a collection of cases simulated adding 0, 1 or 2 DS collimators, using different types of halo (HB1, HB2, VB2) and collimator settings (nominal, relaxed or tight settings) as well as two possible DS collimator lenghts (80 cm and 100 cm):
Collection of several simulated cases, with and without DS collimators |
Injection | beta* = 40cm | beta* = 65cm | beta* = 80cm | beta* = 80cm (Roman Pots in) |
